Status Report 3
This blogging business is fascinating. I created the website and blog in an orgy of shameless self-promotion (words borrowed from friend and fellow writer Cindy Phillips). People warned me about the seductive nature of the online universe, and as they predicted, the effort quickly developed a life of its own. But it has also opened a door by creating a platform upon which to expand the original concept of sharing with others my fascination with aviation through the telling of my personal story. I’m currently writing the initial blog about the concept behind my first novel. Rather than write a … Continue reading

Somebody Read It
Imagine my surprise. I’m less than a month into having a website and blog. A few friends and acquaintances have been kind enough to visit and on occasion add a comment, but it’s not like I need a traffic light. One of my logbooks is dedicated to personal opinion, and I didn’t name it Rants and Raves for no reason. Maybe it’s because there’s so much material out there to blog about that triggers a reaction from the ends of the spectrum. Who wants to talk about the ho-hum middle anyway? In this case, the topic of F1 racing got … Continue reading

Status Report 2
Although I’m not sure whether this is the good or the bad news, after twenty-six days of blogging my enthusiasm has only increased. So much to write about and so little time. From the outset, one of my primary objectives has been to share with visitors bits and pieces of a four-decade career as a professional pilot. Initially, I thought my love of writing provided the core motivation, but as I look back through the years, I found another. To the best of my knowledge, I am the only member of my high school graduation class who made a career … Continue reading

Status Report
It’s been thirteen days since I launched my website/blog into the online universe. In addition to the “about” pages, I’ve posted seventeen entries with at least one post in each logbook. From this end of the pipeline, it’s been a blast, and I’ve only scratched the surface of what I’d like to share with visitors about aviation, writing, and writing about aviation. The comment sections in the various posts are a guest book, if you will, that contains a record of visitors passing through. Overall, recorded activity remains anemic. And while I’m tempted to be disillusioned by that, my sister-in … Continue reading

What do you think?
I need some feedback, please, reference the first entry in the Blogbook and my reply to a comment there. To reiterate: My objectives for this blog stretch the concept with posts that on occasion will exceed the typical length. Is that a problem? If it is, you won’t make it to the end of this one, so let there be a warning here. The very first post, titled Beginnings (kind of appropriate under the circumstances) is longer than typical length and received positive comments. I don’t know if those readers noticed the length but ignored it because they wanted to … Continue reading
Blog Backstory (CAUTION! Info Dump)
First, credit to Deanna Roy for the photo. Next, credit and special thanks to her for assisting me with this website and blog. What follows is how it all came about. Deanna moderates, chairs, facilitates and otherwise cracks the whip over a roomful of unruly writers every second and fourth Sunday of each month. The Novel-in-Progress Group of Austin calls these meetings roundtables. What’s up with that? We sit at six rectangular tables arranged in a rectangle. I’ve been meaning to talk with her about that. I’m at the point in my writing effort when the dreaded query letter fills … Continue reading
